Rebecca Way, RHIA

Rebecca Way
Rebecca Way has over 10 years experience in the Health Information Management environment. She has worked both in the acute care setting and as a consultant in various capacities.

Rebecca has been actively involved in conducting hospital assessments for preparation toward the Electronic Health Record in acute care Florida hospitals and in addition, completed a very comprehensive assessment for the Public Hospital Authority of the Bahamas. These assessments included full documentation of current-state processes in all areas of HIM, record storage and availability, forms review, staffing analysis and software assessments. The client was then given a full report on findings, recommendations for EHR readiness and current state workflows with visio’s.

Rebecca also has a thorough knowledge in Enterprise Master Patient Index capabilities and processes and has been actively engaged at a large health care system in New York serving as a full-time consultant for implementation of the EMPI product across the health system. She will help organizations reach the goal of implementing clean and effective MPI databases throughout the health care system. She will tailor the processes to meet the exact needs of the client by working with management, the end-users and the vendor to reach that goal. This also includes meeting the needs in areas such as Patient Registration, physician clinics and downstream ancillary departments. Rebecca has also developed and written organization-wide policies and procedures and training manuals in preparation for activation of the EMPI product.

In addition, Rebecca has served in an interim management role in various acute care hospitals including a very large acute-care Florida hospital where she was active in streamlining operations, renegotiating various contracts, JCAHO compliance and developing strategies for EHR readiness. This project included a very large analysis of off-site record storage issues which resulted in processes redesign, contract renegotiation and ultimately vendor selection. She was also very involved in the ROI process in vendor selection for the EHR.

Rebecca is very knowledgeable in many vendor applications and has a good understanding of the capabilities and functionality of most EDM systems. She has assessed and evaluated many systems for future knowledge and client use.

Rebecca also has worked as an Operations Manager in a acute-care hospital for a number of years where she was responsible for transcription, physician chart completion, analysis, assembly and file clerks. She was also responsible for statistical reporting for hospital database, physician re-credentialing, departmental statistics and quarterly AHCA reports. She successfully implemented the full electronic tracking system with Meditech, including the Meditech automated deficiency system. In addition, Rebecca implemented the Dictaphone Speech Recognition and Physician Workstation for electronic signature, which included training 100% of the physicians and physician buy-in and was successful in lowering the delinquency rate from 50% to yearly average of 17% for the last two years. Rebecca brings her knowledge of HIM operations to the consulting arena.

Rebecca graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Health Information Management, and is a credentialed RHIA.
